If you've been following our recent social media posts, you could be forgiven for thinking that all we do is chase drug dealers and turn nuisance vehicles into giant tin cans! 🚗➡️🥫
While those jobs certainly keep us busy, they only tell part of the story.

A huge amount of the work carried out by your neighbourhood team happens behind the scenes. 
We don't often post about it because it frequently involves personal circumstances and individuals who are at the centre of ongoing issues within our communities. 
However, this work is often what makes the biggest difference to the lives of local residents.
Much of our day-to-day role involves tackling anti-social behaviour and resolving neighbourhood concerns before they escalate into criminality.

🔧 Some of the tools we have in our toolbox include:
📝 ABC (Acceptable Behaviour Contract)
A signed agreement between an individual and the police (and sometimes partner agencies). Think of it as a "let's draw a line in the sand and move forward" document. It's designed to encourage positive behaviour and prevent matters from escalating further.

⚠️ CPW (Community Protection Warning)
The official "we've noticed, and this needs to stop" warning. It sets out what behaviour is causing concern and gives the person an opportunity to change their ways.

📄 CPN (Community Protection Notice)
If the warning hasn't had the desired effect, a CPN is a legal notice requiring certain behaviour to stop. Ignoring it can lead to prosecution.

👨‍⚖️ CBO (Criminal Behaviour Order)
The heavyweight of the anti-social behaviour world. Issued by a court, it places restrictions on individuals to prevent further offending and protect the community.

📊 In the last two months alone, our small neighbourhood team has issued 18 of these interventions, all aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and steering people away from behaviour that could otherwise escalate into criminality.

☀️ As we move through the summer months, we'll continue working hard to address behaviour that causes alarm, distress and nuisance within our communities. Whether it's ongoing neighbour disputes, nuisance vehicles, disorder, street drinking or other anti-social behaviour, we'll continue using the powers available to us to protect those affected and improve life for local residents.

Sometimes neighbourhood policing isn't about the photos, vehicle seizures or warrant executions. 
More often, it's about the quieter work behind the scenes, helping solve long-running problems, supporting victims and making our communities safer places to live.

Every report matters, every intervention counts, and every positive change helps make Wantage and Grove a better place for everyone.
